Hi Pete,

I think that unfortunately you are right to be concerned, as only one inference can be drawn from the MP's decision to withdraw their own Pension Scheme from the realms of Lord Huttons reveiw into "all" public sector Pension Schemes.

What with the Goverment, Media and even now A.C.P.O. attacking Police Officers (Federated ranks) terms and condition and Pensions, there are certainly dark days ahead.
It appears they know the cost of everything , but the value of nothing.

Who do you trust?
Stay safe

Ian. I know of Mr Herberts comments and that "all accrued values will be protected", but that doesn't help us very much if you have more than 3 years pensionable service remaining. Our pension value is calculated on our last 3 years salary so if the pension scheme regulations were changed so that we cannot retire until say 55 years of age then that leaves many officers up the creek without a paddle.

I firmly believe that as MPs and Ministers are not included in this review that we're going to get a hammering and the public opinion through being misinformed will support the Government.

I wonder if the Firefighters pension will receive the same treatment as the public perception of them is totally different!

Hi 250488, As you will see from our "Staff Side" submission to the commission, we agree with you.
Please note that at our May Conference the Police Minister Nick Herbert and the Home Secretary both then and since have said clearly the any accrued values will be protected.

It seems to me that we should have the right to stand firm for our pension rights. The end result of two thirds pay or a tax free commutation is what we have all stayed in the job for. To potentially change this at the end seems a betrayal at the highest level. Furthermore many officers will have geared up there whole retirement on these conditions. I can accept a slight increase in contributions but not a change to the final result. Our pension was never sold to us a a "With Profits" style but a guarenteed lump sum / pension!
