The Real Policing Pledge

When the Policing Pledge was launched the Federation launched “The Real Policing Pledge”, which your local representatives would have told you all about, but is basically aimed at protecting the role of a Constable, and looks at gaining commitments that are crucial to securing an effective and flexible police service.

“We” have been lobbying MPs to gain support for the Real Policing Pledge, which culminated in MP David TC Davies recently hosting the Real Policing Pledge Parliamentary Reception. Amongst the guests at this reception was the current Police Minister, David Hanson, who spoke in support of this pledge! Over 70 MPs have signed in support of this pledge, who have committed to protecting the “office of Constable”, maintaining police officer numbers, ensuring police officers are provided with appropriate training, protecting police officer numbers from erosion by workforce modernisation, or civilianisation by any other name and to honour the results of the Police Negotiating Board on pay.

This all sounds good, but will those MPs have any real power or drive to maintain the office of constable post 6th May 2010?

For more information on the real policing pledge, and those MPs who have signed up to it (in case you want to do any lobbying of your own) log on to www.realpolicingpledge.co.uk
